Random Pictures

This picture is taken from the Brotherhood Bridge parking lot. These beautiful flowers that you see are called Fire Weed. You can see Mendenhall Glacier there behind.
Best looking guy in the valley! Okay, maybe not so much....

Gorgeous sunset over the Gastineu Channel. It isn't raining, hallelujah!

When you walk off the ship this bear is standing there for a photo opportunity! The ridiculous part is that the photo will cost you twenty dollars! I tried to take a picture of the front side of the bear and the camera guy walked up and said that I couldn't do that because it is copy righted. Just another fun part of Juneau.
This is the bus I was driving today, number 7169. The bus does alright, it shifts smoothly and rides nice and smooth, but the AC doesn't work so well.

These are the three types of buses that we have to drive. The bus on the far right is a D model, number 1204. The bus in the middle is an RE model, number 7704. On the far left is the normal bus and is the most popular (not worth talking about).

This is 1204 in front of majestic Juneau. The big mountain behind is called Mount Juneau and if you didn't notice it at first there is a waterfall on the far right, its not a fold in the picture.

Hope you enjoyed the pictures :)

Birthday Party

Happy birthday Warren!!
Tonight we had Warren's 64th birthday at the Thane Ore House where its an all you can eat halibut, salmon, salad, beans, corn bread, and beef ribs. It was an amazing night and lots of good food. By far the best time I've had with the company so far.
This is inside Thane Ore House with a few of my fellow employees.
We had some intense horse shoe games going on inside. I'm proud to say that I won the match I participated in. My partner was Margerate. Yes, we rock!
This is Margerate. Great friend :)

Slow Day

Today I was stuck with simply transfers in a van that is also known as a Sprinter. It seats 15 including the driver. Basically I took a group out to the glacier then to the Eaglecrest Ski Lodge to do a zip line tour. After I dropped them off I went back to the yard to learn that the helicopter transfer drop-offs I was supposed to do for the rest of the day had all been cancelled, so I went home and did laundry. Nothing special. Enjoyed some fish and chips for dinner and now thinking about going to bed at 8:12 PM. Pathetic, huh?

This is my good friend Angelica Gutierrez! She has been a lot of fun to hang out with and also makes Juneau quite a fun place :) good times.

Fun Surprise

Today I had a nice surprise. I started normal with an excursion called a Wildlife/Glacier, then I did a drop-off and pick-up for Whales and Trails. I was supposed to be off after those duties, at about 4 in the afternoon, but luckily I was asked to do an Evening Quest drop off. So I picked up a group of 52 people (full bus) and drove them to Allen Marine. After I dropped them off I was about to pull off the dock when dispatch told me I would need to pick this group up after their tour, but then they told me to just go on the tour with my group!!! So I ended up going on an Evening Quest excursion again!!!! Great time :)
This is Dale, the other driver who came along with me and the tourists tonight. Dale has been working for our company for seven years. Sorry Pat, he didn't recall your name. We had lots of good laughs, that is for sure.
So we had some amazing food. My favorite was the salmon spread with crackers. Another favorite was the spinach soup with a roll. Then the brownies on the bottom left of the picture. There was sausage and other stuff. Man, I'm hungry again.....

All the people in this picture were apart of my group. This picture also shows the view of the front of the boat on the bottom level.

No, this is not a hot spring, this is simply how whales go to the bathroom....just kidding...

These guys on the buoy were not something I saw on Sunday night, but these sea lions are pretty awesome. They are not the same type that you find off of Pier 39 in San Francisco. These guys weigh upwards of 2000 pounds. Flipping huge. :)

So all in all, great day, and can't wait to see what gets thrown at me tomorrow. Night.

Whale Watching

I finally had the opportunity to comp a tour. Sunday afternoon at 4:45 I walked down to one of the docks and jumped on a bus to go to Allen Marine where I got on a boat with 25 other people. Mind the fact that these boats hold over 100 people. Plus there was a buffet table with some amazing food. Here are some pics of my adventures to sea.

Its amazing how hard it is to get a good picture of a whale coming out of the water. I did see bubble net feeding where the whales dive and come up at the same time, and even saw a calf do some breaching (when the whale comes all the way out of the water). I had a great time and ate a lot of food :) I was stuffed!!!

Sweet Vehicle

Today was my day off. I did a few fun things, but I don't have the correct cable for my camera at hand to upload my whale adventures, but I did see a few other neat things today.
This truck was in the Safeway parking lot. It is a three door just like our old Bubba truck. Too bad we didn't fix ours to look like this, right? Haha.

This sweet little place is located about a half mile away from where I live. This bridge is not built on solid ground, but rather its built straight out from the side of the mountain, and its lined with timber the size of what Dad has sitting up behind the barn. It is a really pretty spot, and it leads to a bunch of different hiking spots, including the climb to the summit of Mount Juneau and the other Mount Robert's. Awesome!!! Can't wait to climb them, but I've heard they are very dangerous hikes, so I think I'll wait till my leg is a little better.
